A DAP councillor for the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Tiew Way Keng is currently the subject of a domestic inquiry by the MBPJ after she was alleged to have abused her power in handling the Megah Ria Market lot-swap controversy involving disabled stall operators.
The council’s audit committee member, Tang Fuie Koh, has not ruled out the possibility that Tiew might be sacked in a similar fashion to former Klang councillor, Tee Boon Hock.
He said the committee will submit the report to Selangor Chief Minister, Khalid Ibrahim, in two weeks’ time.
“MB (Khalid) will be the one who decide (her fate), not MBPJ,” he added (right).
The committee was tasked to investigate Tiew after several complaints were made against her for mishandling the Megah Ria Market issue
Komunitikini has been informed that the complainants, some of them are NGOs, also lodged a total of seven police report against the councillor, whose area of responsibility is Zone Six (SS23, 24 and 26 in PJ).
Tang said the inquiry procedure includes inviting MBPJ’s licensing officers, enforcement officers and the Megah Ria market vendors to give testimony.
Tiew is in hot soup following allegations that she had forcefully demanded last month that five disabled and elderly vendors who occupied the market’s front row lots, exchange their lots with the vegetable vendors from the middle row.
It is claimed that MBPJ’s licensing officers, on the instruction of Tiew, had harassed the five vendors.
Meanwhile, Tiew has faith that her name will be cleared once the inquiry is complete.
“I hope after my name is cleared. Action will be taken against those who made false allegations against me,” she told Komunitikini.
