Sabah company bankrolls 1Gateway stripmall project in Klang

Abandoned project from 1997 revived, previous unit buyers to be compensated.

Dermaga Suasa Sdn Bhd with its white knight Legenda Erajuta Sdn Bhd, a Sabah-based development company, will revive an abandoned shoplot project in Taman Datuk Abdul Hamid here as well develop a new commercial hub dubbed as 1Gateway.

Legenda Erajuta’s Managing Director, Raymond Chan, told a press conference here today that construction work on the abandoned 16 units of shoplots had commenced today and it was expected to be ready in six months.

Apart from reviving the abandoned project, the new commercial centre 1Gateway will be built adjacent to the abandoned shoplots.

Several completed shoplots under the abandoned Intania Klang project, previously developed by Dermaga Suasa are also in the area.

The 1Gateway project, with an estimated cost of at least RM400 million, will be built on a 7.08-hectare prime land located between Persiaran Raja Muda Musa and Lebuh Turi here.

It will consist of retail and shopping units, offices, cineplex, hotel tower and office towers as well as 3,002 bays of carpark.

Chan said they planned to turn the project into a food and beverage hub in Klang and bring in reputable anchor tenants and a hypermarket to attract the crowd.

A four-star hotel will be built as a landmark for 1Gateway, he said.

Project Manager for Dermaga Suasa, Anthony Lee, told reporters with the implementation of 1Gateway some of the projects under the Intania Klang project will not be carried out.

These would include 500 residential units comprising condominium, medium and low cost apartments.

The company would compensate all the money paid by the buyers of the residential units, he added.

The 1995 Intania Klang project was originally a joint venture between the Port Klang Authority and Dermaga Suasa but it was unfortunately stopped due to setbacks caused during the 1997 financial crisis.

However, in December last year the Port Klang Authority gave the green light to Dermaga Suasa to revive the project.
