The police have collected RM476.6 million from summons issued during an eight-month period ending February this year.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said RM421.2 million was collected via police counters while the rest was obtained through online services www.myeg.com.my (MyEG) and www.rilek.com.my (RILEK).
He said collection of summonses from police counters amounted to RM64.1 million in July, last year, RM40.6 million (August), RM22.9 million (September), RM29.3 million (October), RM29 million (November), RM127 million (December), RM44.7 million (January 2011) and RM63.6 million in February.
The MyEG and RILEK online services collected RM4.5 million in July last year, RM2.8 million (August), RM1.8 million (September), RM2.3 million (each in October and November), RM26.2 million (December), RM7.3 million in January this year and RM8.3 million in February, he added.
Hishammuddin said this in a written answer to a question from Fong Po Kuan (DAP-Batu Gajah) at the Dewan Rakyat today, on the total collection from police summonses between February last year and last month, from online services and what the ministry needed to pay to other quarters for collection by MyEG.
Hishammuddin said the government paid a commission of 1.8 per cent of overall monthly collections through MyEG using the credit card, and 50 sen for each debit card transaction.
“Besides that, RM2 is charged for each successful payment which MyEG will keep,” he said.
This report however does not explain what the money collected is used for.
