The police arrested 13 people, including a fellow policeman, who allegedly stole national cars and stripped them of their parts.
Terengganu police chief Jamshah Mustafa said 11 of the suspects were arrested at several workshops and a house on March 8 while two more, including a lance corporal, who was attached with Marang police, yesterday.
He said the police seized 10 cars besides car components like doors, engines, chassis, bodywork and tools.
Besides the 43-year-old policeman, most of the suspects arrested aged between 30 and 40 worked as mechanics at illegal workshops, he told reporters here today.
Jamshah said the policeman, who was picked up in Marang last night was handed to the Subang Jaya police in connection a car theft there.
He said two other suspects were remanded until tomorrow and two more until Saturday while the rest were released.
The police are on the lookout for three more suspects, he added.
Jamshah said the police believed the car thieves were responsible for six car thefts in Kuala Terengganu and another in Subang Jaya.
The stolen cars are Proton Iswara, Waja, Iswara Aeroback, Satria, Saga, Wira and Perodua Kelisa, he added.
