The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has allocated RM103 million this year to build and repair 3,644 houses under the Program Bantuan Rumah (PBR) in Sarawak, said its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
He said as of Feb 28, this year, 1,883 houses under the PBR programme had been completed.
“Apart from building houses, the ministry had also built roads, provided water and electricity supply to ensure the welfare of the people,” he said after visiting Kampung Sungai Laruh project in Petra Jaya today.
He said last year 7,331 houses were built, including 1,883 that were rebuilt and repaired.
According to Mohd Shafie, the beneficiaries of the programme were those identified by their respective district office, as poor.
In a separate function, Mohd Shafie said the federal government had allocated about RM500 million to upgrade basic infrastructure in Sarawak under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (RMK-9) and Tenth Malaysia Plan (RMK-10).
