Forty-six families baffled due to mix-up in land title names

Forty-six families from Kampung Pasir Putih in Pasir Gudang are demanding an explanation from the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council and the Johor Bahru land office as to why their land titles are not under their names.

The residents were puzzled when they discovered that their land titles are under non-Malay names in spite of the lands being a Malay reserved area.

The issue came into light after the residents did a search at the Johor Bahru land office recently.

One of the residents even took the trouble to approach the ‘new owner’ of his land, only to find out that the other party had absolutely no idea why his name was on the land title.

“Now there isn’t an assurance that the land belongs to us even if our names are on the land title,” said Syed Othman, one of the residents.

MPPG council president Abdul Rahim Nim, according to the residents, had admitted there is a mistake by the local council and that they would be rectified immediately.

However, the residents are suspecting attempted manipulation by some parties and perceive the act to be a result of blatant dishonesty.

The residents will be sending a memorandum to the Johor Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman to seek his intervention.

Besides that, the residents said that they would be lodging a complaint with Suhakam, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and would also forward a memo to the opposition chief in Parliament to raise and resolve the issue.

When contacted, Rahim Nim has asked the affected residents to come to the council office to do a re-examination of their land title records.
