Fifty new police beats will be created in an effort to reduce crime in Johor Bahru, of which twenty-five will be built soon, said Johor CPO, Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff in a press conference here yesterday.
“Seventy percent of the crime occurs in the city area and the priority is for the police to ensure the safety of the public, the society and tourists,” he said.
The police is in the process of identifying the sites to locate the twenty-five police beats this week.
Currently, there are police beats in Jalan Meldrum, Jalan Segget and Jalan Wong Ah Fook.
Meanwhile, Mohd Mokhtar also urged the Rakan Cop members to be more active in forwarding information to the police as Johor has some 38,000 registered Rakan Cops.
