The Malaysian Parliament Women’s Caucus today urged the government to set up the Gender Equality Committee and implement the Gender Responsive Budgeting soon to enhance the role of women in the country.
Its chairman, Nancy Shukri, who is Batang Sadong Member of Parliament (MP),?said the setting up of the committee was necessary as the women were still lagging behind in the employment sector, both in the private and public sectors.
“We have discussed with the minister concerned (Minister in the Prime?Minister’s Department Mohd Nazri Aziz) on the matter and he has given?the assurance to bring the matter to the government,” she told a media?conference at the Parliament lobby recently.
Also present were Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan, Parit Sulong MP Noraini?Ahmad and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.
