The Penang Hill Corporation will study all factors including the affordability of the service for frequent users before deciding on the fare structure for the new funicular train service at Bukit Bendera here.
Its director Lee Kah Choon said in a statement here today that affordability of the service, especially for frequent users such as local residents, service providers, senior citizens and students, would be taken into account.
On Monday, Tourism MinisterDr Ng Yen Yen said the new funicular train service, which replaced the one in existence for 87 years, would be handed over to the Penang Hill Corporation on March 19.
Ng said after the handing over, the Penang Hill Corporation and the state government would handle the maintenance of the train service.
The operation of the Bukit Bendera train service stopped in Feb 22 last year, for upgrading works costing RM68.8 million. The funicular tram, used since 1923, has been replaced with an electric train.
