The tabling of the Kampong Baru Development Corporation Bill for second reading will be postponed probably to the June 2011 session of Parliament.
“This is to enable several clauses of the bill to be scrutinised and to give space to owners and inheritors (of properties there) to understand the bill better,” said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, today.
He said there were owners and inheritors who did not have adequate understanding on the “purpose or intention” of several specific clauses but they did not know to dispute the formation of the Kampung Baru Development Corporation.
Speaking to the media after holding a meeting with representatives of the owners and inheritors of properties in Kampung Baru at his ministry, here, he said Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had already been informed about the postponement.
The ministry had earlier planned to table it at the Parliamentary session this month after the bill had been tabled for first reading in the December session last year.
Raja Nong Chik said a special joint committee would be set up, headed by the ministry’s secretary-general, Ahmad Phesal Talib, together with several non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to scrutinise the clauses to be improved.
He said that a referendum on the proposed development of Kampung Baru would be carried out in May.
There are about 4,500 land owners in Kampung Baru, on 880 lots of land.
