Former Henry Gurney inmate joins KBS

KUALA LUMPUR – Emam sat for his SPM Examinations at Henry Gurney school and it did not stop him from scoring 8A1B

Emam Safekri Ahmad Ghasi, an ex inmate from Henry Gurney juvenile correctional institute was recently hired by Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS).

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the initiative was part of the “Yellow Ribbon” campaign, aimed at changing public’s perception over former convicts, to give them a second chance in life.

Emam was in at Henry Gurney school for three years for juvenile delinquency but never gave up on his dreams. He sat for his SPM Examinations at Henry Gurney and it did not stop him from scoring 8A1B for his SPM examinations in 2013.

He then pursued his studies in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) at a Public Higher Learning Institution.

“His SPM result is much better than mine, thus why i am standing and he is sitting in the minister’s seat today. Hopefully his entrance to the team will inspire him to do better!” Syed Saddiq wrote on social media

The programme, implemented by the Youth and Sports Ministry in collaboration with non-governmental organisations to create awareness and enhance support systems for former convicts.
