The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is building 60 more telecommunication towers, estimated to cost RM60 million, in several districts in Kelantan which have limited handphone and broadbank coverage.
Its director (east region), Mohd Shafie Harun, said the towers would be built under phase two of the TIME 3 programme in districts like Gua Musang, Tanah Merah, Machang, Jeli and Kuala Krai.
He said 21 telecommunication towers, costing RM21 million, were built in Kelantan under phase one of the programme last year.
“After the 60 towers are completed, the people in Kelantan will be able to enjoy better broadband service,” he told Bernama here today.
On the Community Broadbank Center, Mohd Shafie said there were 20 in Kelantan and their presence had benefitted about 14,000 rural residents.
The PJK are managed by Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), except the one in Tanah Merah, which is managed by DiGi, he added.
