The total amount of unclaimed monies in the country stands at RM4 billion, Deputy Finance Minister Dr Awang Adek Hussein said today.

He said the owners and inheritors of the monies might not be aware of the existence of the funds and could make enquiries at the nearest branches of Bank Negara and submit claims.

“If the monies are not claimed within the stipulated period, the government may borrow it for development purposes for the benefit of the people,” he told reporters after handing over the keys to houses to 83 people under a Risda house aid programme in Kampung Lati, here.
Awang Adek, who is also deputy chairman of the Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee, said Kelantan Umno hoped that the federal government would maintain the RM18 million allocation approved for Kelantan Risda last year.

He said the money was necessary to help almost 1,000 poor people to own houses as well as repair dilapidated houses.
