Crystal Tung Lu Yie, a dental surgeon, drilled her way to her new-found title as Miss Asia Noble Queen International 2019.

The 24-year-old Penangite did the country proud by winning the prestigious title at the Miss & Mrs World Noble Queen International 2019 pageant in Hong Kong last Dec 12.

Tung, at 168 cm tall (5’ 6”), also took home the World Noble Queen Best Evening Gown 2019 subsidiary title.

“Honestly, I joined the competition with no expectations as I didn’t have much time to prepare before flying off to Hong Kong. And I’m just so happy.

“Winning the title came as a surprise to me and what I can say that it was all thanks to my family, friends and sponsors for their never ending love and support for me to be where I am today,” she told Citizen Journalists Malaysia (CJMY).

Tung is not just a pretty face but also has the brains. She is a doctor of dental surgery (DDS) who graduated from the MAHSA University. Her scope of responsibilities extends beyond merely teeth extraction, denture replacement and dental surgery but also educating the public about safe dental practice. She is strong, intelligent and she knows what she wants.

Does she think she is a good example of beauty with brains?

“I’d love to think so as I truly believe in breaking the stereotype of women holding a professional job as they are usually described as “nerds” and women who are beautiful are plain innocent or not so smart. Women today are multifaceted and I’m proud of it,” she said.

Tung described her World Noble Queen pageant experience in Hong Kong as memorable.

“Hong Kong is one my favourite go-to countries in Asia and being able to come back is truly amazing. The highlight of my entire journey was meeting these wonderful girls from all parts of the world and although it was short, the time spent with them was memorable and they are some of my most cherished memories. I’ve also learned so much from the pageant and I’m thankful for the privilege of representing our beautiful Malaysia.”

Tung had won the Miss World Noble Queen Malaysia 2019 pageant and represented the country at the Miss & Mrs World Noble Queen International 2019 pageant in Hong Kong.

She has quite a number of pageant titles under her belt. She held the titles of Miss Asia Pacific International Malaysia 2018, Miss Malaysia Tourism 2017/18 and Miss Klang 2016.

She said there was no winning strategy in preparing for the Noble Queen International pageant as she used all of the past beauty pageant experience she had.

“I personally think a true Queen doesn’t need a strategy to prove herself worthy as the right queen in any matter. She only has to stay true to herself and her values, people are going to see it.”

For those aspiring to be beauty queens, Tung has some advice: “Beauty pageant or not, always remember that you’re wearing an invisible crown and remind yourself everyday when you wake up to hold your head up high because being born as a woman is already a gift from God. You’re already a Queen.”

She said it is important for women to ensure that they not only look good but also feel good about themselves.

“If I’ve to be honest, outer beauty does open many doors. Looking good is definitely a form of self-respect. As women we don’t dress up to impress others but to make ourselves feel good about ourselves and it’s important for society to understand that.”

Tung is a recipient of CSR Leadership Excellence 2018 award. She believes charity is doing good to others and practices charity actively by giving back as much as possible helping those she could even if it’s just putting smile on their faces.

“Charity is all about the love of giving back to society. No matter how rich you are in life, your heart will never be as full as the day you’ve helped someone.”

Tung enjoys hobbies such as volunteering, traveling and shopping.

Contestants from 16 countries participated in the 5th edition of Miss & Mrs World Noble Queen International Pageant being held on the theme, ‘Unite World with Love’.

While Tung captured the ‘Miss’ category title of Asia Noble Queen International 2019, Ms Taiwan Viada Romadanova was awarded champion of the ‘Ms’ category title.

Miss & Mrs World Noble Queen International is a Malaysian home-grown international beauty pageant founded in 2015 by Jan Sit, a former Miss Malaysia beauty queen who won Mrs Asia Noble Queen International 2015 and Mrs. South East Asia International 2011 pageants.

The home-grown brand has successfully expanded on wider frontiers in the international arena.  Malaysia hosted the pageant twice in 2015 and 2016.   Building on the successful hosting of the pageant locally, the organization decided to host the pageant abroad, first in Myanmar (2017), then in Cambodia (2018) and in Hong Kong last December. The pageant aims to be recognised internationally as the world’s leading international beauty pageant.
