Halal Malaysia Week starts April

The event, which is an annual edition, is made out of three superlative Halal events namely the International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), World Halal Research Summit (WHR) and the World Halal Forum (WHF).

The Halal Malaysia Week 2011 takes place from the 4th to the 9th April at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It comprises three events, namely the International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), World Halal Research Summit (WHR) and the World Halal Forum (WHF).

Expanding the Growth of the Global Halal Industry

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) and Kasehdia Sdn Bhd estimate that delegates and exhibitors from 50 countries will be participating in discussions on the advancement in the Halal research for an industry that’s worth trillions of dollars.

“MATRADE will leverage on the Halal Malaysia Week by organising the Eighth Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), [the key feature of which] is the Incoming Buying Mission (IBM) programme organised by MATRADE. Through its network of 48 offices worldwide, international buyers are invited by MATRADE to participate in a one-on-one business meeting with Malaysian exporters of Halal products and services. These buyers are selected and screened by MATRADE’s overseas offices to ensure genuine interest in sourcing from Malaysia” said Mohamad Kamarudin Hassan, the Deputy CEO of MATRADE.

Addressing and Resolving issues at the Halal Forum

“Since its inception in 2006, the World Halal Forum has provided a much needed platform to address issues that are critical within the global Halal Industry [such as vertical and horizontal integration],” said Hajj Abdalhamid Evans, the Project Director of World Halal Forum.

“This year, the World Halal Forum will [consider] ways in which universal human values are central to the Halal Industry and Islamic Finance,” he added.

Catalysts for growth

This year’s World Halal Research Summit is expected to gather close to 1,000 delegates and participants from 94 organisations worldwide to discuss research findings, innovations and trends.

“This year’s Summit will address topics that relate to the ‘halal catalyst’. [It will also] serve as a platform to determine the Halal Industry’s overall development,” explained Farid Z Hamid, vice-president of operations of the Halal Industry Development Corporation Sdn Bhd.
