About 1,000 stalls that had made illegal connections to the flats at Taman Pelangi, here will be dismantled by the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) in an integrated operation beginning today.

About 1,000 stalls that had made illegal connections to the flats at Taman Pelangi, here will be dismantled by the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) in an integrated operation beginning today.

MPSP Council member M.Ramachandran said the integrated operation, from 9am until 5pm, would continue until Friday.

He said the operation was being participated by 180 personnel from the MPSP Directorate Department, the police, Immigration Department, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Water Supply Corporation (PBA) and the Penang Development Corporation (PDC).

“The operation is being carried out in four phases with the operation today being the first phase. We will not compromise with any quarters and will bring down all stalls that have made illegal connections to the flat units on the ground floor.

“We have also received many complaints on this place, especially concerning local residents who rent out their stalls to foreigners at the rate of up to RM300 per month, and such rentals are disallowed,” he told reporters, here today.

Ramachandran said the Council had issued notices on four occasions within the last three months and the last one was yesterday, to give an opportunity to the traders to vacate their premises, but the notices went unheeded.
