Miss Universe Malaysia 2020 gala night is now going virtual

Members of the public will be able to watch the live stream by purchasing tickets to the show on the Miss Universe Malaysia website

The Miss Universe Malaysia 2020 gala night will be streamed live for the first time on the newly revamped website

The Miss Universe Malaysia 2020 gala night goes virtual this year in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.  

The Miss Universe Malaysia Organization (MUMO) national director Datin Elaine Daly made the announcement with Miss Universe Malaysia 2019 Shweta Sekhon in a video that the crowning of the next Miss Universe Malaysia 2020 will take place online in the form of an e-Gala via live stream embed on www.missuniverse.com.my on Saturday, 5th September 2020 at 5pm.

Only the finalists and panel of judges will be present physically in line with social distancing measures put in place to limit the coronavirus spread. The rest of the audience will be watching in the comfort of their own home.

Members of the public will be able to watch the live stream by purchasing tickets to the show on the Miss Universe Malaysia website, with 20% of proceeds to be channelled to a chosen charity. Further details of early bird ticket sales will be made available on the website and social media platforms.

With the new format, viewers will be able to influence the choice of winners as fans’ votes will count towards determining the next Miss Universe Malaysia 2020, along with the winners of subsidiary titles Miss Body Beautiful and Best in Evening Gown.

Other subsidiary titles to be awarded are Miss La Jung Youthful Forever, Miss Auto Bavaria Elegance, Miss Dermalogica Healthy Skin, Miss Skinz Sanctuary Flawless Skin, Miss Strip Body Confidence, Miss Glojas Beautiful, Miss Habib, Shawn Cutler Hair Award, Miss Congeniality and Miss Online Personality.

Miss Universe Malaysia 2020 finalist Francisca Luhong James, 25, is full of hope and confidence. A Kayan-Kenyah-Iban native of Kuching, Sarawak, Francisca graduated with a degree in mass communications and enjoys dancing and volunteer work.

This year’s e-Gala will be hosted by local personality Will Quah, and will feature a performance by teenage singer, Aqeesh.

The panel of judges will include actor, director and producer Dato’ Hans Isaac, Glojas by Smart International Aesthetic COO Datin Selwinder Kaur, La Jung Aesthetic Clinic medical director and aesthetic medical practitioner Dr Nicholas Lim, Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 Deborah Henry, Carven Ong Couture creative designer Carven Ong, Esthetics International Group director Michelle Lam, Shawn Cutler Group of Salons celebrity stylist, founder and creative director Shawn Loong and-Bowerhaus co-founder Elizabeth Lee.
