Peremalatha Sundram, the Malaysian laughing champion, finished as the third runner up in the recently concluded World Laughing Championship.
Peremalatha currently works as an Occupational Therapist at Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru.
She won the Malaysian Laughing Championship on March 14, 2021.
Peremalatha, who had recently recovered from cancer, revealed that laughter yoga had lifted her life.
“Laughter boosted my mood, got me away from stress and made me feel normal,” said Peremalatha.
She told the audience to believe in laughter as it helped her in her recovery from cancer.
Laughter Yoga is a combination of laughter and yogic breathing, and its reported benefits include warding off depression and improving life satisfaction. In turn, that happiness and positivity can engender further success.
Russia’s Dmitriy Efimov is the winner of the first-ever World Laughing Championship.
Efimov used a bombastic and, at times, stunning style of contagious laughing to survive a litany of laughter challenges, including contestants from Canada, Iran, Malaysia and the USA.
Efimov received the Golden Chalice of Mirth awarded to the contestant who best shares joy through laughter.
Studies have shown laughter evokes further laughter.
It’s fundamental in expressing joy, and evidence suggests that laughter can decrease pain symptoms, lower morbidity, and improve our ability to deal with and recover from stress.
