Clorox Malaysia steps up to support Covid-19 relief efforts

Clorox Malaysia has stepped up its long-standing support to the nation’s disaster relief efforts to combat the spread of Covid-19 with supply donations to three organizations.

Paulo M. Lao, sales and marketing director of Clorox Southeast Asia said the brand contributed a total of RM80,000 in products that will aid in cleaning and disinfection at two government hospitals used to help treat Covid-19 patients and a non-governmental organization (NGO).

They are Hospital Sungai Buloh and Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC); and Mercy Malaysia.

“We are proud that our products can help to effectively clean and disinfect the two health facilities and ensuring that the sites are safe for frontliners, patients and visitors because Clorox believes that clean matters,” said Lao.

The Clorox disinfection and cleaning products were distributed in early June 2021.

The Clorox Bleach and Clorox All Purpose Cleaner Spray were contributed for the thorough cleaning and disinfection of the facilities, while Clorox Expert Disinfecting Wipes are for the daily individual use of frontliners, patients and visitors at these facilities.

Lao revealed that tests conducted by third-party confirmed the efficacy of several Clorox’s disinfecting products against SARS-CoV-2 strains, including the Alpha (UK) and Beta (South African) variants.

“These results are in line with a US Environmental Protection Agency announcement that genetic changes to the virus do not impact the efficacy of disinfectants, and all disinfectants approved to kill SARS-CoV-2 will kill new strains of the virus,” said Lao.

Lao added that cleaning and disinfection are critical in reducing the spread of COVID-19, especially in medical facilities where the risk of infection spreading from the infected to the healthy is high.

Products contributed by Clorox arrived at Mercy Malaysia, and ready to be distributed to families in need.

Disinfecting hard surfaces is carried out frequently for this purpose and the amount of product required daily is high.

UMMC director Professor Dr. Nazirah binti Hasnan and the management of Hospital Sungai Buloh thanked Corox Malaysia for itscontributions in helping to fight the coronavirus.

Mercy Malaysia acting executive director Zuraidah Mian said the organization relied heavily on funding and donations from organizations and generous individuals to continue its services to provide humanitarian assistance to their beneficiaries.

“We thank Clorox Malaysia for reaching out to Mercy Malaysia with their contribution for frontline workers. We recognize the importance they play in helping the battle against this global pandemic,” said Zuraidah.
