One man takes on more than 20 characters in a single play entitled The Greatest Gift. The klpac production will be staged at The Actors Studio @ Lot 10 from 22 December to 26 December 2010.
This live, localised adaptation turns Frank Capra’s classic film, It’s a Wonderful Life into an engaging one-man show. Abdul Qahar Aqilah under the capable direction of Na’a Murad – brings to life more than 20 different characters who come from the small cozy town of Sungai Sentosa. Recommended for audiences aged 7 to 107, The Greatest Gift is a lively, inventive interpretation of the movie, based on Philip Van Doren Stern’s original short story, called The Greatest Gift, which inspired the title of the upcoming show.
The story revolves around George Tan, a small-town man with big dreams and a lifelong desire to see the world. However, circumstances and his own good heart have kept him chained him to his hometown of Sungai Sentosa. He sacrifices his education for his brother’s, struggles to keep the family business afloat to protect the town from the greed of the millionaire mogul Mr. Wong, and marries his childhood sweetheart.
But it is a long, difficult struggle, and one Christmas Eve, the pressures get to George. Feeling like a miserable failure, George wishes he had never been born and prepares to jump from a bridge. His guardian angel intercedes; showing him what life would have become for the residents of Sungai Sentosa had he never lived – granting George a joyous epiphany and renewed view of his life.
