Batu Pahat PKR Tmn Makmur division today accused the Batu Pahat Municipal Council (MPBP) of failure to resolve the garbage pile woes accumulated at Lorong 2, Jalan Kluang, letting the residents continue to suffer from the foul stench.
Its division chief Raymond Chua Chee Meng said some 20 households living in the area cried foul that instead of clearing off the garbage pile, the authority’s contractor has poured in sandy soils to conceal the faulty land.
“Such kind of remedy can’t even contain the stench produced by the garbage, which is harmful to the residents,” he said.
“Besides, it does not stop people from continue discarding waste here,” he said, adding that taxpayers are footing bills of such unwise solutions.
His deputy Ronald Sia Wee Yet described MPBP as “insincere” and “lackadaisical” in tackling issues pertaining to the residents’ concern.
“The council must use slushers to wipe out the pile and clean off the land; and fence up the area to bar people from dumping rubbishes,” he said.
Resident Lim Swee Leong said the foul stench has caused his son to fall ill frequently.
He recounted that the garbage pile only emerged after foreign workers from the nearby factories began to flock to the area.
“Previously there were only 20 families here and we burned the rubbishes every now and then, however it became a pile after foreign workers and outsiders produced a big mounds of waste,” he explained.
He added that the Southern Waste Management Company did not provide any garbage-collecting service to the sub-urban area.
