DiGi iPhone users to enjoy unlimited music downloads with DiGiMusic Play app

Over 400,000 songs available in Malaysia’s first iPhone app for legal music downloads.

To bring more advanced data services to its DiGi customers, DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (“DiGi”) has introduced Malaysia’s first iPhone app that offers unlimited legal music downloads. This is in partnership with Universal Music and Sony Music, two of the world’s largest music labels.

Over 40,000 songs were downloaded during the beta phase in October 2010 when this homegrown music app was made available via Apple App Store. The free application enhances DiGi’s mobile music service that was launched in August 2009 as the service moves into the smartphone arena, starting with the iPhone platform.

DiGi’s Head of Segment Marketing, Moharmustaqeem Mohammed said, “Since we launched iPhones this year, we wanted to create more value added services for our iPhone customers while making DiGi Music even more relevant and available. This also expands DiGi’s outreach to the youth market and anyone who is a music lover.

“Our customers can look forward to see our music application made available on other smartphone platforms in the near future, including Android, BlackBerry, and other operating systems. We aim to enhance user experience in music consumption across devices and platforms, while elevating our competitiveness and relevance in the mobile music space.

“At only RM5 per month, DiGi customers have access to the largest and most affordable music catalogue in Malaysia. Our customers of all ages can choose from over 400,000 songs of both domestic and international acts, enjoy the latest music album releases as well as receive exclusive promotions and discounts for music events and music merchandise,” expanded Mohar.

Loan Cheong, General Manager of Universal Music Malaysia said, “Universal Music is extremely happy to strengthen our relationship with DiGi. Through DiGiMusic Play app, we are able to provide music lovers a holistic social music experience that shapes music consumption in Malaysia while building up Malaysians’ familiarity with legal music downloads.”

Adrian Lim, Managing Director of Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia added, “DiGi has always been innovative when it comes to promoting music in Malaysia. This new DiGi Music app will automatically provide their customers an easier access to their music store and experience unlimited music very easily. With the increasing relevance of mobile music platforms to the music industry, we extend our support of this app. We are also taking this opportunity to expand our artiste promotion activities onto this new platform.”

6ixth Sense, a bestselling local indie artiste that needs no introduction, said, “This DiGiMusic app for iPhones really puts the best new music available to me at the touch of a finger. It’s so easy to become a member and I’m really excited that my fans have a cool and convenient new way to enjoy my music.”

All DiGi iPhone users can search for “DiGiMusic” directly from the Apple App Store or via the link on the DiGi Music website. Users can also retrieve the link to the App Store by sending via SMS DMP to 2016. The app is compatible with all iPhone models running on iOS 3.1.2 and above.
