A couple and two of their children were killed and two other children were injured in a road accident involving their car and three other vehicles near Slim River, 130km south of here, early today, police said.
Tanjung Malim police deputy chief DSP Anuar Osman identified those killed in the 2am accident at Km377.6 of the North-South Expressway as Shaiful Fadzilah Shahar, 36, his wife Siti Suzana Mohd Nor, 33, and their twin boys Fitri and Fikri, six.
Two other children, Fatihah, four, and Firdaus, eight, were injured, he said, adding that the badly injured Fatihah had been admitted to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh while Firdaus, who was slightly injured, was treated at the Slim River Hospital.
Anuar said Shaiful Fadzilah, who was driving the Proton Iswara car, Siti Suzana and Fitri died on the spot while Fikri died at the Slim River Hospital.
The family, which was from Labu, Negeri Sembilan, was travelling to Lenggong to celebrate Aidiladha when the accident happened during rain, he said.
He said Shaiful Fadzilah’s car crashed into a lorry in front of it after it was hit in the rear by a trailer lorry.
The lorry had also hit a taxi in front of it as vehicles were slowing down near the exit to Slim River from the highway, he added.
Anuar said the trailer lorry driver, who was injured, had been admitted to the Slim River Hospital and police had asked for a test of his blood sample.
Fire & Rescue personnel were rushed to the spot to remove those trapped in the badly wrecked car, he said.
