Distraught mother speaks up on the MRSM Kuantan bullying incident

A mother of MRSM Kuantan student posted photos and highlighted the bullying incident her daughter had to endure in school since June 2022.

A mother of MRSM Kuantan Mara Junior Science College student posted photos and highlighted the bullying incident her daughter had to endure in school.

Nazrah Mohamed shared the well-documented chronology of the bullying incident in her Facebook post.

At the time publication, the post received 18,000 comments and shared 37,000 times.

According to Nazrah, the bullying has been ongoing since June 2022. 

She also acknowledged that the bullying incident affected a few other students apart from her daughter.

June 17, 2022

Nazrah’s daughter found her uniform vandalised along with the batik shirt of another senior student. The senior student held a roll call, but they could not identify the perpetrator.

June 19, 2022

Nazrah’s daughter found someone had cut off the sleeves of her yellow uniform. Her daughter informed that the senior students were trying to investigate themselves before involving the warden.

June 20, 2022

The Chief Warden was shocked to learn about the bullying incident from Nazrah. Upon verifying, the senior students admitted they were trying to resolve the case themselves.

June 22, 2022

Upon follow-up, the Chief Warden told Nazrah they had not found the perpetrator.

June 26, 2022

Nazrah’s daughter and her roommate found their uniform vandalised in the morning. Meanwhile, in the evening, they found the washroom door vandalised. The senior students informed the warden.

On the same night, five wardens called Nazrah’s daughter and pressured her to admit that she vandalised the clothes and the washroom door.

July 3, 2022

Nazrah’s daughter and her roommate found their slippers arranged in the front of their room and the washroom vandalised.

July 14, 2022

The deputy principal for student development told Nazrah that the school counsellor reported her daughter has anxiety and high-stress levels. The deputy principal also suggested that Nazrah’s daughter undergo psychiatric evaluation.

July 15, 2022

Nazrah’s daughter told her that the warden pressured her to take responsibility for all the incidents.

July 17, 2022

Nazrah brought her daughter to a child psychiatrist. Based on the clinical interviews, the psychiatrist opined that Nazrah’s daughter does not show any anxiety, depression or stress symptoms. 

The psychiatrist also took a statement from Nazrah’s daughter on the incident.

July 19, 2022

The psychiatrist evaluated Nazrah’s daughter through a few other tests and found her mentally healthy. Nazrah and her husband decided to meet the school management.

July 22, 2022

The school principal, deputy principal, chief warden and counsellor met with Nazrah and her husband. 

According to Nazrah, the school principal admitted that the school erred in its investigation by blaming her daughter.

July 22, 2022

Nazrah lodged a police report on the school management and complained to the Education Ministry via their complaints portal.

July 25, 2022

Nazrah filed a complaint with Rural Development Ministry as Majlis Amanah Raya (Mara) is under their purview.

August 5, 2022

Nazrah received feedback from Mara stating that the investigation is lopsided. They also said that the school followed the correct procedure.

August 7, 2022

Senior students found five activity t-shirt belonging to 4 students, including Nazrah’s daughter, was cut. The school warden then took a statement from the students.

August 8, 2022

Nazrah’s daughter and four roommates found their yellow school uniform cut. The warden took statements from the students. 

The police interviewed the warden and the students at the school after Nazrah informed the police investigation officer (IO).

Following this, the police requested the school to bring Nazrah’s daughter to the police station for her statement to be recorded. She spent two hours giving statements.

Nazrah brought her daughter back home after the session at the police station. A classmate’s parent informed Nazrah of the threatening notes found near the room that night.

The investigating officer suggested the school lodge a police report.

August 12, 2022

At 6.50 am, Nazrah’s daughter called to inform her that someone had cut her and her roommate’s hair while they were sleeping.

The senior students reported the incident to the warden. Nazrah informed the IO. 

The IO had asked the school to lodge a police report.

At the moment, Nazrah is still waiting for feedback from the school and the police.

A distraught Nazrah questioned if the school and the school management were waiting until someone dies before taking action to find the perpetrator.

Nazrah also wrote on her Facebook that the incident, which started as vandalism, now has escalated to body contact.

“How long more does the school want to wait?

“We demand the MRSM to take action, and we would not hesitate to take legal action if there are any more delays,” said Nazrah.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed receiving two reports on an alleged bullying case involving a Form Two student of the Kuantan Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) that went viral on social media yesterday.

Kuantan district police chief ACP Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busi said the school lodged the first report on August 8, while the victim’s mother lodged the second report on August 12.
