The air is full of celebratory mood as thousands thronged the Deepavali open house at the HGH Convention Centre in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, organised by the Malaysian Association Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI).
Different people from all walks of life turned up at the open house in their most cheerful selfs, wishing friends and even strangers with “Happy Deepavali” chants.
The open house, saw an increase in attendees compared to last year’s edition, was hosted by MAICCI president, Datuk K.K Eswaran and wife, Datin Vivienne Eswaran along with their family.
Guests were treated to a sumptuous feast of mouth-watering local delicacies like muruku, candies and other exhaustive traditional snacks.
A colourful 1Malaysia kolam was placed at the main entrance to welcome guests and VIPs.
The main hall, on the other hand, was decorated in a bluish-green theme, while musicians took the centre stage performing live traditional Indian music.
Also present at the Deepavali Open House were some 500 children and senior citizens from various Homes in the Klang Valley.
Some of the Homes which made it to the open house were Rumah Hope, House of Joy, Rumah Bakti and Rumah Orang Tua Ampang.
Eswaran, when met, said that this is the first time such an open house was held at the HGH Convention Centre in Sentul.
This, according to him, was a move to welcome more people to the open house.
Apart from that, the venue was changed from the usual Wisma Peladang in Petaling Jaya to Sentul because the area is more accessible via public transportation and can accommodate more guests.
