  • WHAT IS ESTEE LAUDER COMPANIES’ BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

October 1992, Evelyn Lauder, Senior Corporate VP Estee Lauder Companies, and Alexander Penney then editor of Self magazine developed the pink ribbon which has become the worldwide symbol of breast health. With her simple but powerful objective to “Win the Fight on Breast Cancer”, much has been done and achieved by Evelyn in her efforts to raise awareness and funds that now spans across more than 140 countries worldwide.

The Estee Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign presently extends over 70 countries and represents the most significant and influential campaign ever instituted to educate women worldwide about the need for early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

  • WHAT IS NEW IN 2010 ?
  • MRS. EVELYN H. LAUDER’S CALL-TO-ACTION FOR THE ESTEE LAUDER COMPANIES’ 2010 BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAGIN:
  • “CONNECT. COMMUNICATE. CONQUER.
  • PREVENT BREAST CANCER ONE WOMAN AT A TIME.
  • THE PINK RIBBON. WEAR IT. SHARE IT.”

The Estee Lauder Companies is trilled to announce the launch of a new global 2010 Breast cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign, “ Connect. Communicate. Conquer. Prevent Breast Cancer One Woman At A Time. The Pink Ribbon. Wear It. Share it.” That updates the mission set in motion by Mrs. Evelyn H. Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President of The Estee Lauder Companies, when she co-created the Pink Ribbon and launched the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in 1992.

This year, the provocative and inspiring campaign was conceived by James Gager, Senior President, Creative Director of M.A.C. The ad image was shot by world-renowned photographer Michael Thompson

This year’s BCA Campaign theme draws its inspiration from Mrs. Lauder’s heritage which dates way back to 1946 when Mrs. Lauder’s “High-Touch” method of reaching consumers “Telephone, Telegraph, Tell-A-Woman.”. Mrs. Evelyn Lauder’s approach to conquering breast cancer reinterprets this powerful message for today’s modern and fast-paced culture by encouraging women and men to CONNECT with everyone they

know and COMMUNICATE the importance of breast health and early detection. Indeed, this is Mrs. Evelyn Lauder’s call-to-action to CONQUER this disease once and for all.

“When I launched The Estee Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in 1992, breast cancer was only spoken about in whispers”, says Mrs. Lauder.” 18 years later, countless survivors, supporters, politicians and celebrities have joined us in our mission. Major strides have been made, though we still have a long way to go. We continue to make a real difference, and through our combined efforts of raising awareness and raising funds for research, breast cancer will become a distant memory.”

The Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign for the year culminates with A Pink Charity Evening with Frances Yip. Frances, an international Cantopop singer from Hong Kong, is famous for many Hong Kong TVB series theme songs is conducting her solo charity concert to end our campaign with a bang – the total value of the tickets sold will be channeled to the BCA Campaign Fund.

This legendary singer has performed in more than 30 countries on 5 continents, being equally at home singing Chinese opera or popular English ballads. She has been called “vibrant and exciting”, “sheer professionalism” , “simply the best’ and “A majestic voice talent” by her critics and fans alike. Frances is no doubt Asia’s leading lady of song.

A breast cancer survivor herself, Frances involvement in this concert is intentional, advocating Early Detection of Breast Cancer Saves Lives.

The night was highly anticipated by more than 3,000 strong supporters. Mr. Loo Kai Nan (Managing Director of the Estee Lauder Companies) started the ball rolling by presenting a RM550,000 cheque to 4 charitable organizations that the Estee Lauder Breast Awareness Campaign Fund is supporting: BCWA (Breast Cancer Welfare Association), CARIF (Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation), College of Radiology and NSCM (National Cancer Society Malaysia). The sum was raised from the various activities that were held in October via the sales of limited edition pink merchandises, donations boxes at the Mall road shows, Charity Golf Competition and Frances Yip’s concert ticket sales.

Frances’s vast repertoire of songs that night includes English songs ( Over the Rainbow, You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me, Where Are The Boys, Memory, Now and Forever), Cantonese and Mandarin songs ( Happy Everything, Muk Lan Fa, Bu Liao Qing) and even some Bahasa songs ( Oh Di-mana and Widuri). But nothing beats the moment when the orchestra played the familiar tune of The Bund from the hit series starring Chow Yun-Fat that propel the full house audiences to erupt into thunderous applause.

In between songs, Frances recounted her experience of being diagnosed with stage one breast cancer in 1996. “ It was very scary at the time”, she said adding that it was fortunate that the cancer was detected early and she did not have to lose a breast in the course of treatment. She has remained cancer-free for the past 14 years. She reiterated, “it is of up most important to do regular self-examination. Seek medical help if you detect anything in your breast.”

Towards the end of the two-hour show, Frances dedicated Richard Marx’s Now and Forever to her British husband of 29 years, David Lomax who was among the audience which brought tears to some of the ladies attending the concert that night. It was indeed a night to be remembered!
