Police to reach out to people through houses of worship

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will organise more programmes at houses of worship as a continuous effort to get closer to the public.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the move was also aimed at strengthening cooperation between the police and local residents.

“Public cooperation is important to help the police in discharging their duties effectively…especially in combating crimes,” he told reporters after attending a community programme at the Bukit Utama Mosque in Bukit Antarabangsa, here today.

He said such a programme would also be expanded to other states and districts.

“We want our staff to get involved in community programmes at their respective houses of worship. If the staff is a Muslim, he should join programmes at the local mosque. For non-Muslims, the programme can be held at their own houses of worship like a temple or church,” he said.

Ismail said the move to use houses of worship in organising community programmes was also aimed at improving the image of the police and educating police personnel to discharge their duties in a trustworthy manner.
