Security Guard jailed 3 months for stealing police property

A security guard was sentenced to three months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today after he pleaded guilty to stealing police property.

Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin ordered N.Jayaraman, 57, to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Oct 16, 2010.

Jayaraman pleaded guilty to stealing an iron grille, measuring nine feet long and four feet wide, belonging to the Royal Malaysian Police at Batu 2 ½ Jalan Cheras, in front of the old Cheras police headquarters, at 4pm last Oct 16.

A policeman who was on patrol duty in the area saw Jayaraman breaking the grille.

In mitigation, Jayaraman, who was unrepresented, said he earned RM500 a month and had to support his parents and two school-going children.

Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Muhamad Sapri Yaakub prosecuted.
