Tracey seals two spots at Malaysia Book of Records

The women’s fashion accessory label is the first Malaysian fashion brand to sell from a vending machine and has the most compartmentalised handbag

Tracey, a women’s fashion accessory label, has two Malaysia Book of Records entries for having the most compartmentalised women’s handbags and being the first Malaysian fashion brand to sell products from a vending machine.

Johnson Tan, founded the Tracey in 2008 after becoming frustrated with his inability to find for keys in his wife’s handbag. He noticed that fashion bags were disorganised and decided to design the brand’s first compartment bag to make it more functional for women.

He spent three years creating the bag which his wife Li Aiping adores. Aiping also serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Tracey Star Sdn Bhd.

Originally known as The Urban Lady when it first launched in 2015, the company was renamed Tracey in early 2021. Johnson has continued to design vegan leather bags in a variety of styles, including backpacks, shoulder bags, satchels, and totes.

At a recent launch event which featured the Urban, the City Tote and the Mini Tote collections, Johnson stated that Tracey has been popular among young people aged 18 to 35 since its release, with young women preferring to use a bag with more compartments for ease of carrying.

Its main compartments can accommodate items such as A5 notebooks and 13-inch laptops while the central zipped compartment is ideal for small items such as keys, tissues, and small makeup pouches.

Made with polyurethane leather, the bags are rather light despite being sturdy and structured and are priced between RM29 and RM179.

Two Malaysia Book of Record entries

Their products are also available on the shelves of department stores such as Parkson, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Imago KK Times Square Shopping Mall, and Plaza Merdeka. Johnson revealed that the brand aims to open 5 independent branches in the Klang Valley by 2023 .

“Just like Tracey’s slogan ‘TAKE IT WITH YOU’, we hope to become every customer’s favorite and practical companion, and take it with you at any time.” said Johnson.
