Malaysians can experience the Loy Krathong Festival also known as the “Thai Festival of Lights” at IOI Mall Puchong until November 27th, 2022.
Loy Krathong is one of Thailand’s most popular festivals among Thais and tourists due to its spiritual significance and romantic beauty. The festival is celebrated annually with floating lanterns or “krathongs”, that are decorated with candles and flowers.
The krathongs are released in rivers, canals, lakes and beaches which represents the removal of bad luck and negativity.
It is also often referred to as “Thai Valentine’s Day” as couples who float their lanterns together are believed to be eternally faithful to one another.
Loy Krathong at IOI Mall Puchong
The Loy Krathong festival celebration at IOI Mall Puchong is the largest ever held in Malaysia. The event’s goal is to introduce Malaysians to Thai food, crafts, and culture. The public can release the lanterns while enjoying a variety of Thai food, drinks, apparel and crafts, entertainment, activities, and music at the mall’s outdoor area.
The General Manager of IOI Mall Puchong, Mr. Richard Lye said he is “Proud to be the venue sponsor for this Loy Krathong Festival. We welcome all Thai traders with open arms and encourage everyone to join in this unique celebration.”
There will also be authentic Thai cuisine available, such as Sum Tum, Grilled River Prawns, Thai Style Oysters, Mango Sticky Rice, and many others.
The event was officiated by Senior Colonel Nikorm Tonginkeaw, Thai Defence and Army Attache from the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, on November 18.
“We are extremely lucky to have the chance to experience the magical moments of Loy Krathong in Malaysia, , without having to travel out of this country. It really gives me a nostalgic feeling looking at the decoration, set-up of Thai stalls and the release of floating lanterns here.” Senior Colonel Nikorm Tonginkeaw said.
The Department of International Trade Promotion Kuala Lumpur (DITP KL), the Thai Embassy, the Malaysian Tourism Authority, AirAsia, Singha Beer, and many other organisations are supporting the festival.
