Opening doors to better space management

Extra Space Asia has opened its fifth self-storage facility in Malaysia to meet the growing demand for storage space in the country.

Extra Space Asia, Malaysia’s largest self-storage provider, has expanded into Ampang. The facility, which spans over 17,000 square feet, provides lockers and various walk-in storage space sizes for both personal and business use.

The storage facilities have fortified security systems, such as 24-hour CCTV surveillance and advanced PIN-code access. Each storage unit is also equipped with its own security system.

The new facility, strategically located to serve densely populated areas, is part of the brand’s ongoing efforts to meet the burgeoning local demand for self-storage spaces.

Home and business spaces are now costing more for less space as a result of the fiercely competitive real estate market and growing living expenses. In reaction to this real estate shortage, more city inhabitants are now using self-storage to protect their belongings.

“People will always need extra space. When the economy is growing, we have the spending power to buy more things; when times are less ideal, we may end up being forced to downsize. In both situations, extra storage space is quickly becoming the only way to work around them without giving up the lifestyle we’ve become accustomed to. At Extra Space Asia, we provide flexible, secure, and most importantly, affordable self-storage space as an economical alternative to help maximise Malaysians’ living or working spaces,” said Kenneth Worsdale, Chief Executive Officer of Extra Space Asia.

Business storage model

Aside from personal storage for individuals and families, Extra Space Asia also serves entrepreneurs and business owners who need to store larger inventories. The business storage model offers a wide range of storage size options as well as cost-effective pricing plans starting at RM100. This enables businesses to efficiently scale their storage requirements while adjusting to their budget and the changing market.

Furthermore, business owners who are looking to store a large volume of inventory are also given the option of choosing between self-storage or warehouse storage starting from 12 sq ft to 224 sq ft and 1000 sq ft respectively.

“As the start-up and e-commerce sector in Malaysia continues to flourish, we notice that the tech-savvy business leaders prioritise efficiency, security, and convenience over almost everything else. With that in mind, our storage spaces are equipped with state-of-the-art security features to ensure that inventories are safely stored 24/7, all year round,” Kenneth added.

To bring the convenience of extra storage space closer to more Malaysians, Extra Space Asia also has plans to launch its dedicated mobile application later in the year. The application named ‘Yes!’ wil be available for both Android and iOS users.

Customers will be able to access their storage space information and pay their storage rental while on the go at any time of day or night. They can also earn points through this app, which can be exchanged for a variety of digital vouchers and rewards.

The opening of the Ampang location brings Extra Space Asia’s total storage space to over 1.5 million sq ft across Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan. With over 15,000 storage units across six countries, the company is planning to expand to more facilities and key markets to strengthen its presence in 2023.
