It was the opportunity of a lifetime for young footballers in Kuala Lumpur as they took turns taking photos with the English Premier League (EPL) trophy on display exclusively at Dignity for Children Foundation’s (Dignity) premise in Sentul.
Working with Manchester City’s Cityzens Giving Programme, Dignity hosted the trophy as it made its way around the world as part of Manchester City’s Global Trophy Tour to celebrate the club’s 2021/22 Premier League victory and the fourth title win in five years.
Dignity has been one of Malaysia’s largest and most comprehensive learning centres for the underprivileged for the past 25 years. The centre has provided education and cares to more than 2,250 students yearly.
The Faisal Cup
Dignity, which has run its football competition called The Faisal Cup since 2006, invited its co-founders, coaches, players/students and partners to view the trophy.
The Faisal Cup brings together marginalised and refugee children to play football in a recognised competition. Through the Faisal Cup, Dignity hopes to promote social inclusion and equality. From the initial three teams, Dignity now has 155 teams.
“I am so excited to see the trophy in real life and take photos with it – just like in the English Premier League tournament! I hope I can one day play in an actual Premier League game. Now, I want to play well at the Faisal Cup.” Ezra Van Lian Ceu, a 15-year-old footballer, said.
Dignity has collaborated with Manchester City on its Cityzens Giving Programme since 2015. In this project, Cityzens Giving provides funds for Dignity’s Peace Camps, football training and community football programme and invites young leaders from the NGO to its Young Leader Summit held in Manchester annually. To date, 13 young leaders from Dignity have participated in the Summit.
