Shipwrecked and fearing her twin brother dead, Viola is swept onto the shores of Illyria. Disguising herself as a boy, she takes a post in the Duke’s court and, on his behalf, attempts to woo his loved one, the Lady Olivia. Of course, things do not go as expected when it comes to love.
The upcoming production performed by klpac’s T4YP Ensemble will also feature original compositions by singer-songwriter Elvira Arul. A regular on the live music circuit around KL, Elvira has also appeared in a few stage productions including Bernarda Alba (under the direction of Christopher Ling) and Do You Hear The People Sing (The Canticle Singers). She recently won two awards at the Asia Voice Independent Music Awards (AVIMA).
Continuing the tradition of past ensemble members influencing the work of the present ensemble are T4YP Alumnus Dinesh Kumar, Gregory Sze and Nick Dorian who will be joining the Twelfth Night line-up. They performed in T4YP’s sold-out production of Hamlet last year.
Twelfth Night will be staged in a modern, contemporary setting which befits it’s themes of mistaken identity, infatuation and broken hearts. In fact, it is these universal themes that has made it ready fodder for movie adaptations, notably the 2006 rom-com, She’s The Man, starring Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum.
Christopher Ling remarks, “As a production, Twelfth Night has been a joy to put together. The characters, their intentions and predicaments readily inspire us at T4YP. But as with all beloved comedies, there is always a darker side on the reverse of the coin.”
