Jazz enthusiasts in Sabah are in for a treat as the third official Sabah Jazz International Jazz Day Celebration is set to take place on April 30th. Organised by the Sabah Human Development and Empowerment Association (SAHDEA), this year’s event is in collaboration with the organisers of Urban Tamu, a popular street market in Sabah.
The event will be held at Riverson from 12 pm to 6 pm and will feature a special edition of Urban Tamu called “Urban Tamu X Sabah Jazz”.
Celebrating Jazz Around the World
The International Jazz Day celebration takes place around the world on April 30th, and Sabah is fortunate to have its own Jazz event to celebrate the occasion. Sabah Jazz is listed on Unesco’s International Jazz Day celebration, bringing together communities, learning institutions, artists, academics and jazz enthusiasts in celebrating jazz music.
The event will feature jazz performances from various artists, including Sabah’s highly talented jazz band, the Blue Note Band, as well as Jess & The Deaf Katz, Angelyca Laura, neojuice and Aphrodites of Sabah Institute of Art.
In addition, lectures, professional musicians and students from the University Malaysia Sabah, Sabah Institute of Arts, RTM and many more will also be participating in this year’s event.
Sabah Jazz: Free Event Open to the Public
In an effort to give back to the community, this year’s Sabah Jazz has teamed up with Urban Tamu to offer the event to the public for free.
“We are excited to announce that this year’s Sabah Jazz will be a much more casual affair and open to the public for free,” said Jessel Yansalang, SAHDEA’s Vice President.
The collaboration with Urban Tamu is also an opportunity to promote the tourism industry through music and local events, according to Andrew Lee, co-organiser of Urban Tamu.
Lee added that the collaboration between Sabah Jazz and SAHDEA is a great opportunity to promote small to medium businesses through the ongoing Urban Tamu. Held monthly at Riverson, Urban Tamu provides a platform for these businesses to showcase their products and services to a wider audience.
In summary, this year’s Sabah Jazz International Jazz Day Celebration promises to be a memorable event for jazz enthusiasts in Sabah. With the collaboration with Urban Tamu, the event will be open to the public for free and feature jazz performances from various artists, including Sabah’s highly talented jazz band, the Blue Note Band.
