USJ Rotary Club holds computer class for single parents

Entering its third year, the Rotary Club of USJ is conducting free computer literacy program again to help the needy for better job prospect. This time they are appealing for single parents to join.

USJ Rotary Club is calling the single parents and the poor to improve themselves by joining the weekly computer literacy program organized by the club for free at 3K Sports Complex.

The program will include courses from Microsoft Office, digital media to web solutions and Quick Books. Participant who completes the course will be awarded with certificate endorsed by Microsoft.

Project chairperson, Nagesh Mahajan said that the program conducted at 3K Sports Complex every weekend can help improving the socio economic conditions of the needy and preparing them for a better job prospect.

“By spending a maximum four hours on Saturday and Sunday to attend the training, one can expect a salary increment up to RM500,” continued Nagesh Mahajan.

Thumbs up

David Lew, a senior citizen who completed the training last year, gave thumbs up to the instructors.

He said the instructors taught him how to open a Facebook account and upload video to YouTube.

“Digital media is such a powerful tool to empower someone to know so much more. Everyone should be part of this connected world,” continued David Lew.

He said the program also encourages peer learning, where he did not feel embarrass to ask questions in the class.

The computer literacy program is conducted with the financial aid from Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh and CIMB foundation.

50 walking sticks for senior citizens

Meanwhile, Hannah Yeoh announced that USJ Rotary Club has donated 50 walking sticks to be distributed to the senior citizens.

She said the senior citizens could either come to her community service centre or liaise with Rotary Club on Tuesday night to get the free stick.

She also applauded USJ Rotary Club’s efforts in the society.

Hannah Yeoh’s community service centre is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1pm to 7pm, and Thursday night from 8pm to 9pm.
