Laughter is the best medicine, and the Johor Bahru Happy & Joyous Club knows it well. The club celebrated the 15th JB-World Laughter Day 2023 on May 7th in a unique and mobile way.
The event saw 44 members on a bus, making three stops across Johor Bahru to spread laughter, joy, and good health.
The first stop was at the Senior Citizens Association Johor Bahru for their annual Walk for Health event. Close to 200 participants joined in, including the Laughter King and Queen, Zainen Rahman, and Choo Soh Kim, respectively.
The second stop was at Pelangi Leisure Mall, where another 150 participants came together to laugh and enjoy the festivities. Here, the Laughter King title was shared by two brothers, Tan Wei Hair and Tan Wei Bin, aged 7 and 5, respectively. Accompanied by their mother, Chui Sau Ying, from China. Karsem from Indonesia has been crowned the Laughter Queen.
The last stop was at Pelangi Plaza, where the event saw similar numbers of participants. Umer from Pakistan and Rachel Ng from Johor Bahru were crowned the Laughter King and Queen, respectively.
300 free sponsored t-shirts were distributed throughout the event, along with 900 Souvenir program booklets, laughter masks, and bookmarks. The event was free to the public, and invitations were sent out to Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations. The day was filled with laughter exercises, mini drum circles, and clown dances.
The event aimed to promote good health, joy, and world peace through laughter. It aimed to increase awareness of laughter benefits to the community, and have outdoor fellowship amongst members and the community.
World Laughter Day was initiated in 1998 by Dr Madan Kataria, the founder of worldwide Laughter Clubs. The celebration of World Laughter Day is a positive manifestation of world peace, and it is intended to build global consciousness of friendship through laughter. Laughter is a universal language that has all the ingredients required for individuals to change themselves and to change the world in a peaceful and positive way.
