The Selangor state tourism exco will focus on developing and promoting potential tourist packages at Kuala Langat, which received a significant rise in tourist arrivals during the first five months of this year.
Selangor state exco for tourism, consumer affairs and environment Elizabeth Wong said the southwestern district houses some fascinating spots such as Kelanang beach, Morib beach, Bukit Jugra, Makam DiRaja, Istana Bandar, Muzium Jugra and Carey Island.
“Bukit Jugra is well-known for paragliding, not only among the locals but also the foreigners.”
Since hosting the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup last year, the approximately 400 feet hill has quickly become a weekly gathering venue for paragliding enthusiasts.
For an amateur to soar. one must first undergo the basic training course.
Elizabeth meanwhile mentioned Batu Laut Beach and Kelanang Beach as some other ‘hidden secrets’.
“Batu Laut Beach was once a favourite destination of yacht sailors. We are planning to revive the sport as part of the homestay package to boost visitors.”
The beach located at Tanjung Sepat offers a variety of nostalgia Malay homestay programmes, besides being noted for its fresh seafood delicacies.
“Kelanang Beach, on the other hand, can be (improved to rival) neighbouring Morib Beach.”
7.2 million allocated by federal government.
Elizabeth said RM7.2 million was allocated by the federal government to the state to carry out maintenance works and repair amnesties on the three spots.
“Maintenance costs at Bukit Jugra, Kelanang Beach and Batu Laut Beach (cost) RM2.072 million, RM4.028 million and RM1.1 million respectively,” she said.
She however said it is the state’s right to receive such allocation.
“There is no issue about us needing to be ‘grateful’ because Selangor generates the highest taxpayer income for the federal government.
“The state will also look into developing tourism products in Sabak Bernam where the majority of its representatives are from BN.
“I hope everyone would work together under the bipartisan spirit to uplift the tourism sector.”
