With the successful return of China Southern Airlines in April, the addition of Shanghai Airlines further solidifies Sabah’s position as an attractive travel destination for Chinese visitors.

State Assistant Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, also the Sabah Tourism Board chairman, warmly welcomed the 159 passengers on the inaugural Shanghai Airlines flight.

This renewed air connection demonstrates the increasing interest and confidence in Sabah’s tourism potential. Shanghai Airlines now operates daily direct flights between Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI), providing travellers with enhanced convenience and accessibility.

The Shanghai Airlines flight utilises a Boeing 737-500 aircraft, offering a smooth and comfortable journey that takes approximately four hours and 25 minutes. With flights scheduled daily between Shanghai and Kota Kinabalu, the new service caters to both leisure and business travellers, facilitating seamless exploration of Sabah’s natural wonders and cultural heritage.
