Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) recently hosted its annual Venture Day event, a vibrant gathering aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial culture within the student community. On June 17, 2023, students, parents, staff, and members of the local community converged to explore the world of startups and small enterprises.
Organized by six APU Club and Society members, spearheaded by the Enterprise Club (E-Club), Venture Day 2023 proved to be a resounding success. The event brought together various student clubs, including the Operation Smile Club, Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Club, Integrated Sustainability and Urban Creativity Centre (ISUC Student Chapter), Music Club, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), all working in collaboration to create an immersive and engaging experience.
During the event, Datuk Parmjit Singh, APU’s CEO, presented the trophy for the Best Booth Decoration to the deserving winner. The E-Club, established under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Angelina Yee, APU Director of Research and Enterprise/Club’s Lead Advisor, showcased their commitment to entrepreneurship with over 200 members actively participating in the event.
Engaging activities and immersive experience at Venture Day
Venture Day 2023 aimed to provide attendees with invaluable opportunities to network with fellow students and entrepreneurs, while also raising funds for charitable causes. The event featured a diverse lineup of speakers, including William Wijaya, an APU final-year student specializing in Cybersecurity, who conducted a mind-expanding workshop on Return Oriented Programming (ROP).
Beyond the workshop sessions, Venture Day treated participants to a plethora of engaging activities. Student clubs captivated the audience with their talents through performances, and entertaining games were organized to ensure an enjoyable experience for all. Captivating booths and lucky draws added an element of excitement to the festivities.
Prof. Dr. Angelina Yee emphasized the importance of engaging in revenue-generating activities, stating, “By engaging in revenue-generating activities, students had the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset that would serve them well in the future.”
Dr. Beh Ching Yew, Head of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, shared his belief that Venture Day plays a crucial role in nurturing APU’s students as the future generation of entrepreneurs.
“Visitors were treated to a sight of APU’s multicultural experience, an enticing mix of food trucks, food stalls, product showcases, coffee stations, and refreshing drink counters.” Dr Beh added.
The event also featured a thrilling lucky draw, offering visitors the chance to win attractive prizes provided by generous sponsors.
Fostering innovation and philanthropy
In keeping with the spirit of giving back, the six APU Club and Society members pledged to donate RM10,000 to a charitable cause.
“This noble gesture is the definition of the community-driven nature of APU Venture Day and its commitment to giving back to society.” Nicholas Wong, President of the E-Club said.
As the second edition of Venture Day drew to a close, the organizing committee expressed their gratitude to all participants, clubs, businesses, and sponsors for their contributions to the event’s success. The conclusion of the festival marked another milestone in nurturing APU students’ entrepreneurial spirit while instilling a sense of social responsibility.
Looking forward, the six APU Club and Society members are already envisioning an even more remarkable Venture Day next year. They aim to create an enriching experience that continues to inspire and empower students, fostering innovation, forging connections, and making a lasting impact on both the APU community and society at large.
