Electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts planning a road trip to Port Dickson have reason to celebrate as ChargEV, the prominent electric vehicle charging network, has officially introduced its latest DC charging facility at the Starbucks Port Dickson drive-through. This announcement was made through a Facebook post that left EV enthusiasts eager to experience sustainable travel firsthand.

“Introducing our new DC charging location at Starbucks Port Dickson Drive-Thru. Don’t just take a break – take a sustainable break. Charge your EV, enjoy a relaxing cup of Starbucks while relishing the sea view, and continue your eco-friendly journey. Sounds fun? Go check it out when you’re there! With chargEV, you can charge smarter, charge faster,” the Facebook post read, creating a buzz among environmentally-conscious drivers.

High-Speed charging for EVs

The newly launched DC charging station boasts an 80 kW output and utilizes a CCS2 connector, providing rapid charging to compatible EVs. The usage cost for this facility is set at RM1.20 per kWh, making it an economical choice for EV users seeking a quick battery top-up. Situated approximately two hours away from Kuala Lumpur, the ChargEV DC fast charger at the Starbucks Port Dickson Waterfront is a convenient addition for those transiting through Port Dickson and requiring a battery boost.

Early adopters of this charging location were able to access free charging before the official announcement, as revealed by data on the PlugShare platform. The Starbucks Port Dickson drive-through charging station has been operational since the previous month, already serving several electric vehicle owners. This sneak peek into sustainable travel was undoubtedly a welcome surprise for those utilizing the location.

Strategic harbor for EVs at Port Dickson

The charming sea-facing view further enhances the charging experience, allowing EV drivers to relax while their vehicles power up. With ChargEV’s commitment to expanding Malaysia’s EV charging network, the addition of the Port Dickson charger aligns with the company’s mission to promote sustainable travel alternatives.

The strategic positioning of the new DC charger within the Port Dickson waterfront area, surrounded by popular destinations like Starbucks, McDonald’s, TF Value-Mart, and D’Wharf Hotel, makes it an ideal pit stop for EV drivers seeking not only replenishments for their vehicles but also for themselves.

Diverse charging ecosystem

ChargEV’s commitment transcends DC charging infrastructure, as underscored by its operation of three 22 kW AC chargers at D’Wharf Hotel & Serviced Residence. The pricing structure for these AC chargers is pegged at RM2.00 per 10 minutes, equating to approximately RM1.09 per kWh for vehicles capable of accepting 11 kW on AC. Likewise, it costs around RM1.72 per kWh for EVs like the Ora Good Cat, BYD Atto 3, and Dolphin, which have a maximum AC acceptance rate of 7 kW.

Earlier this year, ChargEV made a significant move by installing a pair of CCS2 Kempower DC fast chargers at Berjaya Times Square, offering up to 225 kW charging capabilities. These units are also priced at RM1.20 per kWh, maintaining consistency across the network. Furthermore, six AC chargers with a maximum capacity of 22 kW were introduced in Basement 1, charging RM0.60 per kWh for members and RM0.80 per kWh for non-members.

To facilitate easy access to ChargEV’s charging network, interested individuals are encouraged to download the ChargEV app, available on both Apple and Google Play platforms. This app enables EV owners to locate nearby charging stations, check availability, and streamline the charging process, contributing to a seamless electric vehicle travel experience.

As the electrification of transportation gains momentum in Malaysia, ChargEV’s continuous efforts to expand its charging infrastructure across key locations like Port Dickson signal a promising future for sustainable mobility in the country.
