Canon Marketing Malaysia, a leading name in the photographic and digital imaging industry, has officially unveiled its inaugural “Canon Short Film Contest 2023.” The contest, themed “Harmony in Diversity,” aims to provide a platform for emerging filmmakers and content creators to exhibit their talents while celebrating Malaysia’s rich cultural tapestry.
In an effort to bolster the Malaysian creative scene, Canon is taking proactive steps to engage with and nurture local filmmaking talent. The contest is an opportunity for filmmakers, whether equipped with high-end cameras or smartphones, to refine their skills and gain recognition in the industry.
“We’re excited to see the video entries from budding filmmakers in Malaysia, as they express their perspectives of ‘Harmony in Diversity’ through visual storytelling,” said Shunji Yoshikai, President and CEO of Canon Marketing Malaysia.
Harmony in Diversity
Themed “Harmony in Diversity,” the contest beckons participants to embark on a narrative journey that showcases the myriad cultures enveloping Malaysia. It serves as a window into the exceptional experiences the country offers, including its culture, racial diversity, and breathtaking travel destinations. By doing so, the contest emphasizes the storytelling prowess of local filmmakers.
Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd. Ghapar, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, lauded the initiative, stating, “Malaysia is a vibrant haven for those who love to express themselves through a camera lens. Through this contest, Tourism Malaysia is thrilled to have our aspiring filmmakers capture the land that we call home in their own creative ways.”
A panel of esteemed industry experts, including acclaimed director Raja Mukhriz, Director of Photography Indra Che Muda Redzuan, and veteran storyteller Chew Han Tah, will serve as judges for the contest. Their discerning eyes will evaluate submissions, seeking videos that inspire, evoke emotions, and demonstrate exceptional technical finesse.
