CapitaLand has been recognized as the Company of the Year in the community care category at the Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards 2023. The accolade was awarded for its impactful #GivingBersama 2.0 initiative under the shopping mall category.

This marks the second consecutive year that CapitaLand has been honored with this prestigious award, having received it last year for its support to orphanages.

The annual Sustainability & CSR Awards acknowledge exceptional efforts of companies in Malaysia towards sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

CapitaLand’s #GivingBersama 2.0 initiative, a part of its global #GivingAsOne campaign, aimed at enhancing access to education and support for beneficiaries from orphanage homes and schools across Malaysia.

Through the support of CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF), the philanthropic arm of CapitaLand Group, over RM 64,000 worth of daily necessities and school essentials were distributed to more than 1,200 child beneficiaries from 36 orphanages and schools in Penang, Klang Valley, Kuantan, and Johor.

CapitaLand staff volunteers, numbering more than 80, contributed nearly 590 hours from October to December 2022 to facilitate this effort.

CapitaLand: A commitment beyond donations

Selina Ng, Head of Retail, CapitaLand Investment (Malaysia), expressed gratitude for receiving this honor for two consecutive years.

She emphasized CapitaLand’s dedication to making a positive impact by uplifting communities. Ng highlighted that this initiative is more than just donations; it signifies the collaboration of employees, tenants, business partners, and the broader community to enhance the lives of marginalized groups in Malaysia.

Ng further mentioned that education-focused initiatives play a crucial role in building community resilience.

Since 2011, CapitaLand, with CHF’s support, has contributed over RM2.2 million, aiding more than 11,200 children in need across Malaysia.

The #GivingBersama 2.0 initiative succeeded the earlier #GivingBersama campaign launched in Malaysia in 2021, which had already made a significant difference to more than 650 vulnerable children from 17 orphanages.

CapitaLand’s presence in Malaysia encompasses various asset classes, including residential, retail, lodging, logistics, and business parks. The retail network features seven malls, with six owned by CapitaLand Malaysia Trust.

These include properties like Gurney Plaza, Sungei Wang Plaza, and East Coast Mall, among others. Additionally, CapitaLand operates Nusajaya Tech Park in Johor, further highlighting its contribution to the nation’s business and community landscape.
