IJN hosts Heart Up! event in celebration of World Heart Day

Join IJN’s ‘Heart Up!’ event at Mahkota Parade, Melaka, from Sept 27 to Oct 1. Fun games, health screenings, and an informative forum await!

In celebration of World Heart Day, Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), Malaysia’s leading heart specialist center, is gearing up to host “Heart Up!”, a five-day event dedicated to empowering and inspiring Melaka residents to make heart-healthy choices. Scheduled to be held at Mahkota Parade from September 27 to October 1, between 10am and 10pm daily, the event promises to be an exciting and informative experience for all.

“Heart Up!” is set to offer an array of heart-boosting activities for attendees of all ages. Among the highlights are face painting and virtual reality games, while children under the age of 12 can showcase their creativity in a kids cosplay competition. For the adults, there’s “Adventure Quest,” a treasure hunt-style game with thrilling adventures and exciting prizes up for grabs.

Heart-Healthy activities for all ages

The event’s program also includes interactive fitness sessions, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) demonstrations, and special performances, making it a fun and educational outing for the whole family.

Medical professionals from IJN will be providing free basic health screenings throughout the event, measuring key health indicators such as body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, and glucose levels. Visitors can also opt for more comprehensive screenings, including cholesterol, electrocardiography (ECG), and basic echocardiogram (ECHO) tests.

Aspiring healthcare professionals and those interested in pursuing careers in the health sector will have the opportunity to attend career talks and counseling sessions hosted by IJN College representatives. IJN College, renowned for its cardiovascular and thoracic science courses, has been offering healthcare management and related disciplines since 2007. IJN will also be actively recruiting for various positions, allowing working professionals to submit their resumes on-site and gain valuable insights into the benefits of a career with IJN.

The culmination of the event will be a free public forum in Mandarin, titled “Living with Heart Failure: Lifestyle Changes and Self-Care.” This informative forum will take place on October 1 from 8am to 2pm at the Courtyard by Marriott Melaka. Registration is required to participate, and entry is free.

The forum will feature a series of interactive sessions led by health professionals from IJN, including Dr. Ow Ji Ken, Clinical Fellow in Cardiology, who will explain the causes of heart failure and practical prevention measures. Senior Diabetes Educator Choong Shiau Yin will explore the link between diabetes and heart failure. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about the latest medical advances at IJN from Akim Affandi Ahmad, Head of Marketing at IJN, and gain insights into sourcing good health insurance coverage from Laurent Haw, Head of Distribution at Allianz Life Malaysia.

World Heart Day, observed globally every September 29, serves as a reminder for people worldwide to prioritize their heart health. IJN, committed to advocating heart wellness, has consistently marked this occasion by organizing awareness-raising initiatives across Malaysia. This year, IJN’s World Heart Day celebration is proudly supported by Mahkota Parade, and the public forum is co-organized with Allianz Malaysia and sponsored by Novartis Malaysia.
