Canon Marketing Malaysia (Canon0 is spreading its green footprint to East Malaysia as it extends its “One Canon One Tree” campaign to Kuching, Sarawak. In collaboration with the Malaysian Nature Society Kuching Branch (MNSKB), supported by Malesiana Tropicals Sdn Bhd and Majlis Bandaraya Kuching South (MBKS), the initiative aims to plant 100 trees at strategic locations in Kuching, including the Burung Kenyalang Flyover Kuching (Roundabout) and other areas within MBKS’ jurisdiction.
The partnership with MBKS is aligned with the council’s urban reforestation efforts, focusing on creating mini rainforests to enhance the city’s aesthetics, foster biodiversity, improve air quality, and combat the urban heat island effect.
Christopher Chin, Head of Kuching Branch, Canon Marketing Malaysia, emphasized the ongoing commitment behind the “One Canon One Tree” campaign, stating, “Our One Canon One Tree campaign is not just a one-time event, but a continuous effort to nurture and protect the environment. We believe in the power of collective action, and through this partnership with MNSKB and MBKS, we are creating a lasting impact on our local environment.”
Strengthening commitment to ‘Kyosei’ philosophy
Canon’s environmental efforts align with its ‘Kyosei’ philosophy, which promotes coexistence between people and nature. Collaborating with MNSKB and MBKS furthers their shared goals of mitigating habitat loss and preserving East Malaysia’s rich biodiversity.
Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South, expressed gratitude, saying, “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Canon for its invaluable contribution towards the green transformation of Sarawak. This partnership with MBKS and MNSKB is a significant step, and we hope to make it an annual tradition as we identify numerous other locations ideal for urban rewilding across our Kuching South.”
He added, “Today’s initiative holds tremendous significance, serving as a powerful message to the younger generation about the vital importance of environmental preservation.”
Connecting communities through indigenous trees
The tree species planted in Kuching have been carefully chosen for their indigenous roots, providing a unique learning opportunity for local youth. These sites can become educational destinations, fostering a deeper connection with the environment.
Canon invites everyone to join in their mission to create a greener future for the planet, one tree at a time.
Following this expansion into East Malaysia, Canon has announced its next destination for the “One Canon One Tree” campaign in Sabah, where they will collaborate with the Malaysian Nature Society Sabah and University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to further their tree planting endeavors. This move underscores Canon’s commitment to fostering greener communities across East Malaysia.
