The CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship 2023 unites financial sector for sports and camaraderie, promoting work-life balance

The CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship 2023 brought together Malaysia’s leading financial institutions in a spirited display of sportsmanship, promoting a healthy work-life balance and fostering stronger relationships within the financial sector.

The championship, organized by CTOS since 2017, witnessed an impressive surge in participation, with over 400 employees representing 27 financial institutions, more than double the number in previous years. This event has evolved into a platform for both badminton enthusiasts and corporate professionals to come together and celebrate the benefits of sports in the workplace.

Erick Hamburger, the Group CEO of CTOS Digital Berhad, shared his enthusiasm for the championship, emphasizing the importance of a healthy work-life balance. He stated, “We hope to inspire our fellow FIs to participate in future editions as a channel to create more role models from the corporate level and get them involved in sports to promote a healthy work-life balance in society. This way, we can not only do our bit to maintain the country’s financial health but physical health as well.”

Alliance Bank emerges as Premier Cup Champion

The tournament, which unfolded over two days at Arena Sukan Kuala Lumpur, culminated with Alliance Bank clinching the coveted Premier Cup. They secured the Premier Cup Challenge Trophy along with a cash prize of RM6,000. In addition to these awards, Alliance Bank’s team members received medals, MAXX Sport products, and B-Physica and Bellolis vouchers.

The final Premier Cup showdown saw Alliance Bank triumph over Bank Simpanan Nasional in the Mixed Doubles category. Tan Jia Sheng and Ng Waon Xuan of Alliance Bank secured a dominant victory (21-4, 21-3). In the Men’s Doubles, Alliance Bank’s Adrian Tan Yenn Wei and Alvin Tan Yenn Sheng battled to a hard-fought victory against Bank Simpanan Nasional’s Mohd Nur Helmi Arazmi and Tg Saiful Azhar Tg Mohd Nordin (15-21, 21-14, 21-18). Alliance Bank’s Veteran’s Men’s Doubles team, Tan Hang Chong and Teoh Kok Keong, clinched the decisive win (21-12, 21-7) that secured their championship victory.

Coming in at second place, the Bank Simpanan Nasional Team took home a cash prize of RM4,000, along with medals, MAXX Sport products, and B-Physica and Bellolis vouchers. Maybank and AEON Credit Service teams secured the third and fourth places, receiving cash prizes of RM3,000 and RM2,000, respectively. In the Plate Cup category, HSBC Bank emerged as the champion, receiving a cash prize of RM1,500, while the UOB team was awarded a prize of RM1,000.

The championship featured intense competitions in various categories, including Men’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Men’s Veteran Doubles. The first and second-ranked teams in the group stage advanced to the Premier Cup, while the remaining teams continued their journey in the Plate Cup.

The championship saw a diverse range of participating financial institutions, including CTOS, Kementerian Kewangan Malaysia, Bank Negara Malaysia, Bursa Malaysia, Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), AEON Credit, Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad, Allianz Insurance, Bangkok Bank, Bank Islam, Bank Kerjasama Rakyat, Bank Muamalat, Agrobank, China Construction Bank, CIMB Bank, Citibank Malaysia, Coop Bank Pertama, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, KAF Investment Bank, Kuwait Finance House, Maybank, MBSB Bank, OCBC Bank, RHB Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, and UOB Bank. The championship was made possible by official equipment partner MAXX Sport and supporting partners The Malaysian Insurance Institute, B-Physica and Bellolis.
