In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable transportation, Shell Recharge, in collaboration with Porsche Malaysia and Genting Malaysia Berhad, has announced plans to establish a cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at Resorts World Genting. The facility, set to be operational by early next year, will feature ten charging bays equipped with ultra-fast 360kW high-performance charging (HPC) technology, enhancing EV accessibility at Malaysia’s premier integrated resort destination.
This initiative is part of Shell Recharge’s extensive EV network expansion, boasting 136 strategically located charging points across key cities and highways in Peninsular Malaysia, linking Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Seow Lee Ming, General Manager of Shell Mobility, Malaysia, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “With the addition of 10 charging bays at the hilltop of Resorts World Genting, we continue to make headway towards a continued commitment to enabling a net-zero transport solution in Malaysia. Soon, EV customers from all over the country and beyond will be able to drive their way up to this premier resort without having range anxiety, experiencing a worry-free journey with our Shell Recharge network.”
Enabling seamless cross-border EV travel
The collaboration with Porsche Malaysia emphasizes the commitment to cross-border EV travel, connecting three countries seamlessly. Christopher Hunter, CEO of Sime Darby Auto Performance, representing Porsche Malaysia, said, “We are delighted to further elevate the seamless charging experience for our Porsche Taycan owners, as well as other Porsche electric vehicle models on the horizon, with this new high-performance Shell Recharge 360kW DC charging hub in Resorts World Genting, providing ultra-fast charging speeds of just approximately 20 minutes for a complete 5-80% State of Charge (SoC).”
Genting Malaysia Berhad, represented by Gary Chen Wing Kong, Senior Vice President, Real Estate Development and Project, expressed their honor in providing a high-performance EV charging hub to guests. “With the rapid adoption of EV cars in Malaysia and across the region, this will help promote sustainable tourism and provide convenience to our visitors up at Resorts World Genting,” Kong stated.
Cutting-edge technology
The state-of-the-art charging hub will feature four bays of 360kW high-performance charging and six bays of 22kW AC chargers. All chargers will be equipped with CCS Type 2 charging connectors, offering EV drivers a super-fast charging experience at the hilltop.
Shell Recharge is transitioning to a kilowatt-hour (kWh) pricing mechanism, effective from November 1st for AC chargers and December 15th for DC charging stations. The model will include a reservation fee and idle charge to prioritize smart parking bays for EV owners.
For a seamless journey, customers can reserve parking bays in advance through Shell’s ParkEasy app, which also provides navigation assistance to locate available bays and a parking barrier to ensure availability.
