Cactus Boy Nursery recently wrapped up a three-day succulent fair at Ipoh Parade, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of plant enthusiasts and curious shoppers. The event, which drew an impressive crowd of 8,000 visitors, transformed the shopping center into a botanical wonderland, showcasing a diverse array of plants that ranged from the exotic to the familiar.
One of the standout attendees was 13-year-old Loong Yong Xuan, a form one student from SMJK Sam Tet. Yong Xuan, who developed a fascination for succulents at the tender age of 5, used his ang pao money and savings from pocket money to invest in his growing collection. His dedication to the art of succulent cultivation led him to seek advice from his idol, Ah Boy (Koh Kuan Meng), the founder of Cactus Boy Nursery. Armed with knowledge about plant behaviors and intricate planting techniques, Yong Xuan curated an impressive succulent collection at home.
Diverse collaborations
Cactus Boy Nursery collaborated with Jungle Art Studio, May’s Nepenthes, and FFS Botanics, each bringing a unique touch to the fair. Aries Tan from Jungle Art Studio captivated shoppers with living art pieces featuring platycerium or staghorn ferns, air plants, monsteras, aspleniums, and creatively crafted wooden decorations.
May from May’s Nepenthes showcased her expertise in captivating plant varieties such as nepenthes, sarracenia, drosera, venus flytraps, and other carnivorous plants. Her engaging sharings and informative posters provided valuable insights into nurturing these unique plants.
Eric Tong from FFS Botanics specialized in plant growth fertilizers, drawing attention from seasoned enthusiasts and novices alike. His line of growth technology-based fertilizers garnered significant interest, along with an impressive selection of rare and well-cultivated caudex plants.
Cactus Boy Nursery’s global showcase
Cactus Boy Nursery itself astonished shoppers with an expanded collection of cacti and succulents sourced both locally and internationally. Notable specimens included the Blue Myrtle Cactus, known as the Blue Candle, and the Fairy Castle Cactus, both garnering attention for their unique characteristics.
Beyond succulents, the fair featured a diverse selection of indoor and jungle plants, captivating visitors with its sheer variety and scale. Lim Huey Tyng, Advertising & Promotions Ipoh Parade Manager, expressed her delight at the passion of plant enthusiasts, stating, “The succulent fair was a testament to their enthusiasm for learning and exchanging planting tips with expert gardeners.”
