RAAQUU’s first solo exhibition redefines art boundaries

RAAQUU’s captivating solo exhibition at ZHAN Art | Space, Petaling Jaya, showcases Adil Ghani’s ceramic sculptures, pushing the boundaries of art.

RAAQUU, Malaysia’s renowned ceramic art brand, unveiled its inaugural solo exhibition, “LIFE: MAGNIFIED – THE MAIN SHOW,” at ZHAN Art | Space in Petaling Jaya last Saturday. The exhibition, curated by the gallery, showcases 15 large-scale sculptural ceramic pieces by the innovative artist Adil Ghani. The event was graced by the presence of YB Fahmi Fadzil, Malaysia’s Communications Minister, who officially inaugurated the exhibition.

The exhibition, running until 8 February 2024, has attracted the attention of art enthusiasts, industry leaders, and distinguished guests, including Madam Zainariah Johari, CEO of MyCreative Ventures Group. Attendees were mesmerized by the otherworldly sculptures that transport viewers into a realm inspired by microlife, diatoms, and microbial bacterium.

Adil Ghani’s Vision for “LIFE: MAGNIFIED”

Adil Ghani, the creative force behind RAAQUU, expressed his dream of showcasing the brand beyond functional ceramic items, unveiling the intricate world of earthenware sculptures. “LIFE: MAGNIFIED” captures the essence of nature and humanity through meticulously crafted pieces that reflect Adil’s imagination and inspiration from microlife.

Ghani remarked, “The process, from ideation to production, took six months of meticulous work. The challenges were immense, but the journey was ‘life magnifying.’ I’m grateful to my family for their support, motivating me to bring this vision to life.”

Desmond Tong, the Founder and Curator of ZHAN Art | Space, expressed enthusiasm for hosting RAAQUU’s first official sculptural exhibition. He praised Adil’s mastery of Raku’s firing technique and hoped the exhibition would broaden perspectives on art, emphasizing its diverse forms, including ceramic sculptures.

The Essence of “Painted By Fire”

The showcased pieces are a testament to RAAQUU’s tagline, ‘Painted By Fire,’ as they undergo the unique Raku firing method. The sculptures are removed from the kiln while still red-hot and placed in a reduction chamber filled with sawdust or paper, resulting in unpredictable colors and individual character.
