Gurney Bay Phase One ready for public delight

Penang’s Gurney Bay Phase One opens, offering a vibrant mix of recreational spaces, playgrounds, and stunning views for visitors.

The first phase of the eagerly anticipated Gurney Bay project, formerly known as Gurney Wharf, officially opened its doors to the public on Sunday, February 4. The announcement was made by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow after a walkabout with Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.

Declaring the completion of phase one, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow expressed his excitement about the opening, stating, “Works at Gurney Bay phase one have been declared complete, and it will be open to the public from today.”

The Gurney Bay project, initiated in 2016, faced delays during the pandemic but resumed with vigor. The groundbreaking ceremony in May 2022 marked a significant step forward, with Chow Kon Yeow outlining the ambitious timeline for the entire project’s completion by 2025.
