Food Aid Foundation battles hunger across Malaysia

The Food Aid Foundation (FAF) is a beacon of hope for Malaysia’s underprivileged communities.

Founded in 2013 to address hunger in the Klang Valley, FAF has grown significantly, reaching Melaka, Kelantan, Sabah, and soon, Sarawak.

Partnering with local organisations like the Mutiara Food Bank in Penang, FAF is expanding its reach to combat food insecurity.

FAF’s mission: More than just food distribution

“FAF tackles hunger and food security challenges,” explained Izzul Nordin, FAF’s CSR and Programme Manager.

Beyond food distribution, they advocate for waste reduction, promoting sustainability: “Repurposing food waste is a delicious way to contribute,” said Rick Chee, FAF’s founder.

Operating as a food bank, FAF accepts donations of surplus food from various sources, redistributing them to charities, welfare homes, and families in need.

“We supply an average of RM2.05 million worth of food monthly across Malaysia,” said Izzul.

Diverse programs nourishing communities

FAF currently runs multiple programs: The UOB Heartbeat program provides digital skills training and food rations to orphanages, while the Public Bank Islamic program offers free dinners at homeless shelters.

The upcoming Maybank Heart program will deliver cooked meals to underprivileged families in Klang Valley.

FAF goes beyond basic food distribution. They operate a food lab to ensure hygiene and safety standards.

“This facility receives support from Taylor’s University and Empire Bioscience,” Izzul explained.

FAF also provides disaster relief, recently distributing clean water in Pulau Pangkor and delivering food to rural families in Kelantan.

“We are committed to feeding people until food banks are no longer needed,” said Izzul.
